Poor reliability starting to raise its ugly head at Mercedes.

Shame it didn't happen in the race. ;)

(No offence intended to Hamilton fans, just I think Merc DNF's are the only way others will win this year)
Lets hope not, it will just be an excuse. :)

The lap times for Romain Grosjean's latest stint on the medium compound: 1:28.4, 1:27.5, 1:27.9, 1:27.9, 1:28.5, 1:31.1, 1:28.8, 1:30.0 and 1:30.8.

Kimi Raikkonen is on a longer stint on the medium compound, setting these times: 1:27.4, 1:27.4, 1:27.7, 1:27.6, 1:27.6, 1:27.7, 1:27.8, 1:28.2, 1:28.2 and 1:28.3.

Felipe Massa has returned from a longer stint on the medium tyres, setting these lap times: 1:28.1, 1:27.8, 1:27.7, 1:28.3, 1:28.4, 1:28.7, 1:29.1, 1:28.9, 1:29.1 and 1:28.8.
Those times appear all very close, I wonder if they're driving to a set pace?
Maybe. But what I know is Lotus is still having poor tire management over long stints. No wonder we see droping times at end of stints, even if they are closer over one lap. This is caused by having completly new car. It will take time till they can fully understand new engine, and new car so they can do setups which will preserve tires over long stints. They have work to do. It's also reason why Ferrari and Williams have stable times without much drop off. They already had solid last year base, and new cars are basically evolutions of the same cars, they already have knowledge about their engines so they can spend more time and work on setups and extracting performances.
Grosjean 10:13am - 9 laps averaging 1:28.98
Kimi 15:50pm - 10 laps averaging 1:27.79
Massa 15:17pm - 10 laps averaging 1:28.49

The lotus did its run much earlier in the daywhen track was colder

Can't deny that. But still it is visable from times. He does 1:28:5 and next is 1:31. He goes back into 1:28:8 and again drop off next in 1:30. There are drop offs between second and two seconds.

It's funny how people keep mentioning Force India, they haven't even run their car.

I know Ted Kravitz isn't in Barca this week, but do we get a round up like Ted's notebook?

#AskCrofty..... not as good but I think they do it so Ted gets some family time before the season starts.

The reliability bar should be quite high, because Mclaren should have a years worth of data that ought to have informed the development of the Honda power unit this year.

All the teams last year could have been given the benefit of the doubt, because they were effectively coming in blind. Mclaren Honda have a years worth of data - granted this is on the Mercedes engine, but it's still relevant.
It could be a conspiracy to get more development tokens....

After more than 5 race distances it kicked the bucket. That is goooood reliability if you ask me! That's all us Merc supporters need.

5 races is exactly how long it needs to last. It's likely Merc were hoping that it would want to last somewhat longer so that they have some lee-way.

Let's not excagerate either; they need to run that distance on average during the season. It's on target we can say.

Not as close as it appears to you, add it up, see for yourself, don't take things at face value :)

Those Ferrari times caught my eye. A very consistent stint on the mediums but I get the impression that barring Mercedes burning up their tyres, they could probably have a second up their sleeve on those Ferrari averages. Hope I'm wrong though. I'd like to see a contest this year.
