Lotus E23 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Where is the new FW promised by Chester ? They have not enough money ?

Where can you see a aerodynamic change on this car ?

Sometimes (probably more like quite often in aerodynamics) careful evolution is what is needed instead of revolution. The inside of the wing, where a fairly strong vortex is created, is a crucial part of the design. What they have done here is by extending the two upper elements right to the edge of the neutral zone they have moved the vortex created by them inboard by a few centimetres. What it also looks to have done is combine it with a vortex created by the inside foot of the wing (where the wing meets the neutral section) creating one large vortex instead of two smaller ones next to each other.

Who said anything about a "revolution"? They said a new wing.

Yeah, indeed, I exaggerate somewhat the words of Chester, but the fact remains that that they said they will have a NEW front wing is a bit much, isn't it?

However, I'm according to you when @trinidefender says that it's in order to create a T250 vortex. If I understand this you wanted to say, they want to create a big vortex with that of of the area where begins neutral section. Are you sure of your words ? Personally, I'm not sure they want to create a big vortex. I think they want to lower that vortex as did all teams(or almost).

clearly 4th best car on the grid, a little bit of development push and Williams are within range
It's been a long time since we drove last time, but it has also been a short time at the same time

At Barcelona I'm thinking about :

Image

- A highter nose , because Nick Chester talked about a new nose.
- A new shark like the Williams one.
- A new engine cover like this of the Williams or the RedBull.

In my opinion the current engine cover make too much drag, that why they need to change.

Yes, this time however the right hand exit is much larger than was used in Malaysia.

This is surely to compare different temperatures, if the temperatures obtained from the left side are good they choose the smaller engine cover.

I actually think that he/she is right rather there being some weirdness going on. It actually looks a lot like one of their old ones from the pre season testing so quite possibly they are doing evaluation.
