ahh Mexico, the spiritual home of track-limit enforcement

Curious what FP1 will bring, let's hope the anticipated cooling issues will not spread the field apart too much.
Beautiful shot! Somehow I can't recollect which corner that is. This track somehow in the modern layout does not really do anything for me. F1 would do itself a favor and bring back some of the older track layouts like the one in Mexico, the Red Bull ring (forgetting the older track name), etc. Hockenheim the old layout would be awesome to see now with these modern cars too but that might be too dangerous. Anyway getting off track (no pun intended) but cars are already a second quicker than last year's FP1!

I think its either the second esses (current T4 Ese del Lago) or the old T10/11 before the straight run to the Peralta. I believe the latter but I haven't played Grand Prix Legends for a while. But yeah fantastic circuit for cars without downforce ;)

Hockenheim won't come back anymore. Ever. Google about what's left from the old track. You will see sad images.

Well maybe they should use that kind of track-limit enforcement again.

Very early impression from FP1 would be that the Red Bull seemed to be showing strong pace but obviously the track was very green - lots of people going off - and bound to change to some extent.

Still, I think you can usually see very early if Mercedes are likely to have one of their big advantage weekends and don’t see it happening here.

I'd put the onus back on the teams. They can bring any 2 side by side compounds ( US/SS, SS/S, S/M, etc) they want but that's it.
Want to do 1 stop instead of 2? Fine but then you have a harder compound in qualifying.
That's decent.

Yep especially since Red Bull and Ferrari have yet to use the faster compound tires yet!

At the same time you could say , going on recent form, Hamilton has almost 1 second in his pocket.

Can't believe how easy Grosjeans front wing broke! Vibrations only.

Lewis long FP2 runs look ominous, Ricciardo's as well.
The commentary is truly low quality, click bait stuff though - quite annoying.

I don’t know what commentary you’re listening to but if it’s Sky I couldn’t agree more; Crofty getting all defensive at the merest sign of any criticism from tweets doesn’t help either.

In terms of long runs, I’m not drawing any conclusions; Vettel actually was lapping the quickest at the end of the session but means very little, I think.

The Red Bull looked the quickest car today but that’ll all probably change as the others use quali modes and the track rubbers in. I still think it’ll be another Lewis/Seb shootout.

Its Sky. I believe most people who take out time to watch free practice want to get real insights into the state of each team/driver and what is going on on track, but instead of providing these things for the greater part of the event, Sky spent so much time trawling on and on through all sorts of low IQ, gossipy things, just to raise controversy for "discussion".

Yep, Red Bull tend to be really quick in FP1 and FP2, only to get beaten handily by Ferrari and Mercedes in Q3.

At least recently, I think that because they turn the wick all the way up, because they have secured their WCC position, and since both drivers have relatively new components they don't fear pushing them.

Oddly quiet on here this weekend.

In any case, I think there’s pace in that Ferrari; it seems to be lacking a bit of grip, prone to be running wide or off, just lacking some adhesion. Bit even with that, they’re really close to the pace.

This reminds me a bit of Hungary where, we often forget, Ferrari didn’t have a great Friday but made a big step overnight with Giovanazzi in the simulator; I doubt it will be him this weekend since he did FP1 in Mexico so can’t be back in Maranello in time, but if Leclerc or someone else can do similar work, I suspect there’s pace in the car to be unlocked.

Right now though, RB look very strong but with the knowledge of quali modes you’d back Lewis for pole; I just think Ferrari will make the biggest step overnight.

That’s probably just them ‘reaching’ now that there’s not much going on. We are as good as post-championship and post-driver market. Ill be tuning in tonight and tomorrow so hopefully it improves :)
