Scuderia Ferrari SF71H

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I have to say I actually really like this from a visual standpoint - adds a little interest and almost 'visual purpose' (I know it has a very important 'actual' purpose) to the halo.

I wonder if the benefit is as dramatic as they look?

It seems to free up a huge amount of space for air to go over the side pod. But I guess there is still the same drag, if not more when counting the wing bits.
I guess it's just an evolution of them trying to use the mirror to smoothen and to energize the airflow towards the RW.

Is it only me, or does anyone else thinks that it looks like alien eyes with eyebrows?

I've finally figured out what it reminds me off.

Oh boy they opened a can of worms when they said mirrors could be connected to the halo.

I assume their function is very similar compared to the T-wings they ran pre-2009

Very smart from Ferrari, I wonder if anyone else has realised that with allowing teams to mount mirrors, they have opened up space for small winglets all over the place?
I'd imagine everyone realised, we predicted it on here ourselves the minute the FIA okayed it.

A nice way to go around the rules with Halo mounting (it is still just a single closed cross section on the Halo). If I remember correctlly, rules only dictate lateral and fore-aft dimensions of mirrors and their bodywork, not the height. Still, those upper wings will cause a stir even more.
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

I actually like the new solution. Its gives an aggressive look to the halo. Lets see if they stick with it for the race. Any news on other updates? Bodywork?

I wonder if there may be some kind of clarification that the mirror mounts are not excluded from the 2cm halo aero rule?

The flow over the side pod should be cleaner now with no more disturbance from a pylon on the fuselage right?

I do not want to see what more developments they have for that mini wing on top! Lol

About those winglets on the halo, are they more for flow conditioning or vortex generation? They look like they'll create vortices aimed at the rear wing endplate? Possibly to cancel out rear wing vortices and reduce drag?

Are my guesses correct?

The frontal area of the mirrors changed, too. The air intake part is now bigger and reshaped.
