Do you guys think Austria suit our car?
I hope so, three long straight, plus high-speed turns.
Are we still strong on the straights?
Yes, also good in fast corners. Not so good in low to mid speed. Although I believe the pace in France was also caused by the good understanding of the tires.

Weather forcast says we are in for another hot weekend as well so we could expect similar tire strategy as well

McLaren facing Renault engine upgrade dilemma

McLaren is facing a dilemma over whether to go for Renault’s latest upgraded B-spec Formula 1 engine in the next few races, because it is eager to avoid unnecessary grid penalties later in the year.

“But the engine is a good step. It is encouraging to see that Renault is bringing updates.”

Seidl explained that McLaren chose not to run the B-spec in France because it felt that running it in Paul Ricard would virtually guarantee the need for another change later in the year.

“In the end, how the regulations are, you need to make a plan of how you’re going to use your engines throughout the season in terms of the modes, mileage and so on to avoid penalties,” he said.

Seidl confirming the B-spec is a good step, which supports Nico’s 2 tenths claim. This is more reliable than Sky’s nonsense half a tenth statement.
It’s also possible race pace could be considerably better than what they showed. We’re definitely not quick enough to fight Red Bull, Ferrari etc, so makes no sense to push the engine and score the same points. They’re trying as much as possible to maintain the PU life and integrity, so they can decide when best to take the engine and reduce risks of more penalties at the business end of the season.

Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

I think that's the trouble, you'd love to have the engine in for the next two races, but if it's not going to let you battle RB there's no point taking the penalty yet, especially after having a bit of bad luck already in the season, may as well consolidate 4th for the moment and then swap the engine along with the bigger car update package.

IMO they should change one engine in Austria, I think RBR will change VER engine since he was having some trouble in France just to be sure for their home race, since they can't battle with Ferrari or Merc but neither can McLaren or others with RBR they are safe. Again MY OPINION.

I think the only advantage for not taking the new spec is letting Renault get the bugs out. Aside from that I think this is the last spec for 2019.

Only take it if you have fears of finishing the next GP or timing penalties.

Just because you take the PU doesn't mean you have to use it. Just have to take the penalty.

Albon takes a new PU and a penalty, respectively. Why should RB take?

RB took for both cars in France, as well as Kvyat... It’s been reported that their next update will be Monza, allegedly a big one, which will trigger the first grid penalties for RB.... which of course is dependent on them not taking anything before Monza

Thanks, I hope McLaren capitalizes over this.
