Rain and/or a cool race - have Mercedes brought too many mediums?
Softer compounds tend to suffer from "cold graining" in cooler temperatures, especially with heavy fuel. Think they may have nailed the tire selection.

The W10 actually exhibited some cold graining on the softer compunds back during Barcelona testing. Was covered by Racecar Engineering.

On a drying track/in mixed conditions, however, the softer compounds can provide a bit better grip.

I think Mercedes might plan to just drive a lot harder for longer during the race. They say in Hungary that just having excellent race pace can open up more opportunities for strategy. Plus it's a track that you can overtake on.

yes 4 sets of C2's out of 13 sets just gives them options doesn't it. Options, plenty of data from FP, and that car and Lewis love the harder compounds. i mean Silverstone - 1-stop and fastest lap on the C1's after 32 laps!

I think for anybody, other than Hamilton and Mercedes, this season is a break already.

Typically next day predictions are quite ok. But Spa is also a bit of a special region weather wise.

and some on Twitter already told Ericsson is not driving

Alfa Romeo has confirmed that Kimi Raikkonen will take part Friday practice ahead of Sunday's Belgian Grand Prix, after he pulled a muscle during the summer break.

Unless the gap from medium to soft is over 1.3 seconds....

Ferrari brought a rocketship, 1:44 was pole in 2017, and this is just FP1.

I know it'll be closer in qualifying, but damn that's fast. Will be interesting to see their long runs in FP2.
