They had a whole lap to decide. When they saw Max enter the pit lane, Lewis was probably just through turn 1. They probably had 1min 25sec or so. So its not a problem. They probably should have pit.

So when Max pitted, Lewis had 2 whole laps to go.

To be honest I`m pretty surprised the tyres actually stayed on the rim in the way they did, normally they flap around then spin off.
This could all have occured due to carbon off Kimis front wing being in a certain spot, I can`t remember the exact times but the punctures were all very shortly after the front wing loss weren`t they?

Max had of course just his outlap and one flyer. Lewis was already passed pit entry when Max did that so yes he could have pitted next lap but would have had only an outlap. Not 2 laps. That would have been a free point for fastest lap Fr zhamilton If redbull would have gone a lap earlier, that would have been stupid.

Lap 50 does mean 2 laps. So they needed the heat up the tires first outlap and next lap.

Perhaps it would have been safer. But a pit stop is a risk as well

Yeah so literally just lap 51 was the only time they could pit, and it would have been during that lap they needed to make the call.

I'm quite surprised they didn't then, given what happened to Bottas and how risk averse they are.
I'm sure one of the strategists must have come up with 'If Verstappen pits then we must do too'.

How can they do that when Verstappen is behind?

I mean the lap after Verstappen has pitted- obviously. So the first time Hamilton comes past the pits after that. I believe some of the other guys on here said there was an opportunity to do that between Verstappen going in and the last lap, and they should have been prepared for a stop at short notice after what happened to Bottas.

Gro on mediums just 4 laps less than the rest of the field on hards. Could Hass do a 1-stopper next week with such good tyre management?

Pirelli once again prooved they are unfit to supply the sport with decent rubber. If F1 has decided to have a sole tyre supplier and they want that teams still need to make pitstops, they should introduce tyres with soft working compound, while the last layer should be so hard that drivers would need to pit because they would be unable to post decent laptimes, without bursting.

I think it's a bit cheeky of Pirelli in the graphic to claim that set of hard tires was still on the car on lap 52.
