Mercs a second clear of everyone else- not sure of tyres, though.

Edit- no panic! both Ferraris just gone much closer.
App says mediums!

In the short time did watch, the rear of the Merc looks a lot more stable compared to the last race. They seem to be able to attack a little harder.

It's impossible to say if they will stay ahead, but the car from the outside does look more promising.
Not quite sure, but the fact that this is a slower, tighter track with a clear need for downforce over drag probably means they can put bigger wings on which might help ease some of the effect from the floor being less effective so I am not sure that it is sign improvement over different track showing different balance of strengths.

This is actually a medium downforce track. Mercedes and most other teams are running lower downforce rear wings. It is front limited track though, but Mercedes looking much more stable. That rear diffuser strake update and setup work might be an improvement

Yeah, just saw that (didn't have much viewing until now), though indeed, it being front-limited does help indeed.

Ferrari looking strong on both single lap and race pace. This is surprising.

Aston seeking a mid-season rule change is laughable and annoying. I wish them nothing but the opposite of success.

Leclerc in the wall. Looks like quite a bit of damage.

missed Leclerc's (deleted) lap on softs... did he gain much of an advantage? It would have been enough for 1st even

Not that surprising... It's quality team that has shown continual improvement after all -- they developed their 2020 car very well (from an admittedly low base) and have continued on that strong trajectory. =D>

With a great team principal too, to the contrary of the thoughts of some.

Interesting that Leclerc was pushing extremely hard in a race simulation

Mercedes look like they either took full advantage of the 3 weeks improving the car to now be fastest or Bahrain was an anomaly, their pace is dominant today taking a 1-2 in both sessions =D>

This is their home track. Both Gasly and Kvyat should've finished top 5 in that race last year(Kyvat finished 4th, Gasly had a mech issue). IIRC, Gasly qualified in 4th.

The Merc has always been a complicated car to get set-up. The more real world data they gather, the better off they will be.

Who seems on top here? Perez is a long way back, but the huge missing factor is Verstappen. It's hard to judge without him. I very much doubt there's that small a gap from the front to Gasly, though.

Looks like Merc it targeting getting through fp2 and starting on the mediums.

The car also looks like it might have been heavy for the soft runs given they appeared to be taking fuel out of Lewis's car after the run.
