As Mercedes pulled every strategy trick they could imagine, they were at no point a threat to Red Bull's Max Verstappen, resulting in a composed victory in front of the very pleased "orange army". Hamilton and Bottas ended up second and third.
If only we could have Lewis and Max in the same car for a season so that all these "expert" discussions on who is extracting more from the car could end.
Sure, but at least we can compare Lewis and George directly in the 2022 season, so that will be a good battle.
A 37 year old verus a strapping 23 year old? That's unfair!
It's his choice. He can retire and save the humiliation. Nobody is forcing him to go through this.

I was just looking qualifying highlights and it seems that DRS was stuck on Max car on his last flying lap.
Compare it with 2.01.
This would be 2 tents faster if it was fully open.
T3 is steeply banked by digging away the inside. Even from the middle it is a steep Climb to get out. In a low powered car you are actually waiting to get up to speed.
But i was expecting the high power F1 to go for the shorter distance.
The apex itself is less banked so slower and you lose grip because you have to jump down

He will be more than a pitstop behind after 20 laps easy
Since Perez is starting from pitlane maybe he can avoid chaos at the start. And maybe Alonso can block Hamilton long enough to help out Max
Starting on the C1 hard tires >>> SC >>> everyone is into the pit >>> stay out and he will be in the front.
It still doesn't work. If the field are pitting, then it won't be in the first 5-10 laps, as all the medium runners will stay out anyway. After 5 laps anyway the leaders will be 5 seconds ahead of 4th and each car around 1 seconds spread after that. If the SC comes out then, the leaders will be able to pit and come out and only lose 10-15 seconds maximum with safety car speeds.
So Perez does not get involved unless its a blue flag moment.

Never is it worth 2 tenths. Its 1 tenth at the most.
If you watch the lap comparison between Lewis and Max, if its correct, Lewis was a fraction over 1 tenth behind at the DRS line. at the finish line, the gap was 0.038. So it was less than 1 tenth.
Its only about 200m from the DRS line to the finish line. Nothing like a full DRS zone. It would have been much more costly if this happened at the start of his lap.

You're speculating as much as anyone else. The comparison chart in the middle is made trough the mini-sector times. And that last mini-sector, where Hamilton gained, doesn't necessarily have to begin exactly where the DRS begins, so you can't use that to figure out the exact deficit of the DRS not opening.
I have just watched the W series race and there seems to be passing opportunities here at Zandvoort, it requires race craft though where you set up the pass one or two corners before you actually get the move done, especially if a brake is snatched at any time. The start straight could allow a drs pass if you manage to take the final corner close enough.
Just waiting for the f3 race now to see how they manage

But I can tell you in 200m DRS isn't worth 2 tenths. Otherwise it eould be worth over 1 seconds in the whole lap, and thats certainly not the case.
Also when you watch the onboard, At the DRS line Max was 1-2 car lengths ahead. By the line it was pretty much dead level.
2 car lengths is surely not 2 tenths?
If my numbers are right, at 180mph you travel 80 meters a second. So the onboard shows around 2 car lengths so thats around 1/10th of the 80m. So thats 1 tenth of a second.

It’s a shame there’s that big bump on the low line into Tarzan. If you go in low then you are pretty much going to have to manage an inside lock up, really seems to restrict the corner to high line only pretty much.
