If WB is correct with his 500 € per tire assumption, this means 2500 tires per team, which I very much doubt.Paul wrote:Here it is said each team pays 1.25 million euros.
Obviously a correct figure. I forgot to multiply by four and only counted the sets when I got 500 tyres per team. 2000 is the correct figure. I agree with that. In that case the price indeed makes sense.pob wrote:Each team goes through about 2000 tyres per season including those for testing and those taken to races but not used which are destroyed anyway.
Yes indeed, I hate it when things doesn't add up, but let's see now, 2000 tires per season means some 12-13 sets per car and race, I guess that's reasonable too. But the logistics of shipping 1000 tires to each race is mindboggling, though I take it they can make F1-tires pretty flat when not inflated, does anyone has info on how this is technically done?WhiteBlue wrote:Obviously a correct figure. Flat out racing? Nobody wants to see flat out racing. They want to see a show, dammit.raymondu999 wrote:It's ironic that LMP1 focuses on efficient technologies - whether it's energy/fuel efficiency or tyre efficiency, so much so that the driving becomes an exercise in flat-out racing, whereas the opposite is true in F1.
But how much faster over a lap could they be at le mans if have didn't have such 'conservative' tyres? The tyre life at le mans is dictated by the pit stop rules. If you could have Formula 1 style pitstops in sports car racing, I doubt they much Michelin would bring tyres that lasted more than 12-13 laps of Le Mans.WhiteBlue wrote:If you compare it with LMP1 it becomes even more obvious. They run their Michelins triple and sometimes quadruple stints of twelve laps over two hours. F1 is all show when it comes to tyres. Artificial!
Someone posted it here, but I cannot recall where, but it was just a week ago or less.MOWOG wrote:Where can this interview with Pirelli's CEO be found?
