More circuit re-works with banking please :D
Yeah, need to see how it holds up in the race but the onboards look juicy.

It's possible. It's probably a new situation for most of them a 'bigger' event like this, but I hope they can be a bit snappier getting to cars going forward. I'm sure they'll have an debrief later.
I bet most of them are spending their time outside under the sun in the dunes .. which is always a lot better ..

Hamilton loss of power. Don't see that too often! Hopefully it's not an engine change.

He turned it off himself after the team told him to. No fluids or anything.
Hopefully it's an engine change. He destroyed Verstappen's engine so just to make it even.
Give it a rest bud.

So Lewis stopped because of a oil pressure loss, they stopped as a precaution.

Could they not get the car back under hybrid power ? Was only 6 corners from the pit lane. I'd understand on a circuit they have done plenty before , but a brand new circuit, laps are far more important, especially with limited running in P1 too.

Any revolution of the engine with no oil pressure is BAD. the K unit would still be turning the crank to do this.

Yeah good point, for some reason I was thinking they could use the car in neutral #-o #-o brain fade moment

What are those crane booms hanging over the track for? Unusual. Is that safe?

Advantage RedBull.
I was thinking the same, they're huge !
Hope they won't tip with a gust of wind ..
They are there to recover a car from that area there is no access roads or else so they will have to crane them over the circuit

Ferrari is a genuine contender here.. Twists, Turns and Banking should help Ferrari as they never get into the full-throttle... Even the DRS zone is short. Similar to Monaca.

Looks like they have good front end grip on slippery tracks. Marlboro, bocht zonder naam and kumho they are nailing line no other (maybe apart from Ocon). My guess is this advantage will disappear when the track evolves and the other teams are able to hook up the front in those places.

I'd love to see the championship leaders off the podium for a few races while duking it out in the midfield.

I'm hoping Alpine and Ferrari can trouble to top steps this weekend!

I just have a sandbag feeling regarding RB and Merc. Max isn’t slower than Ocon and Stroll in S1 here.

Alpine with low fuel - as per usual Fridays. They will drop in places tomorrow. Ferrari, however, might be a surprise to get one of their cars somewhere close to Merc and RB. Also Norris' race pace was looking decent compared to Verstappen

What are the odds for a Sainz win atm?

Would be awesome to have his maiden victory in red!

It does sort of feel from today that they shouldn't really be running an F1 weekend at this facility. It wouldn't even be in consideration if not for Verstappen. I know they've made a lot of improvements but it feels slightly unfit for purpose so far.

Or... Other circuits (or rather "facilities") like Abu Dhabi, Shanghai and the like are excessive?

Those kinds of convention centres with a piece of (six-wide lane) race track around them are really not the kind of places that the Team Lotus or Scuderia Ferrari transporter would have rolled up to in 1965.

Image

It's called the pit paddock for a reason, after all. It's still a literal paddock in other categories of motorsport and as late as the 1990's, McLaren and the other F1 teams were still using Indycar-like fold-out extensions to the transporters in the pit paddock which fans could freely wander between as this home movie shows...
