We are the Champions - Alonso
Fernando Alonso, the 2005 World Champion, sang out 'We are the Champions' as he drove home his Renault. The Spaniard was in a jubilant mood after securing the Constructors' title for the Mild Seven Renault F1 Team by winning the Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit.
It was the 7th vicotry of the season for Fernando Alonso and the 8th for the Renault F1 Team. Both he and Kimi Raikkonen won 7 races this season, but Alonso collected more points than the Finn. Renault arrived in Shanghai with 2 points more than McLaren and after the final race, the Team takes the Constructors' crown with 9 points more than their rival McLaren Mercedes.
Fernando Alonso says he was determined to win the title and pushed the car as hard as he could.
Fernando Alonso
"It's been a fantastic season for the team and we came to the last race with only two points more than McLaren. So we pushed everything with the car - engine and chassis to win the constructors which is a great motivation for next year to keep it."
Alonso controlled the race from start to finish and despite some oversteering problems, the car was in perfect racing condition according to Alonso. The most impressive thing about the performance of the team must have been the speed that Renault generated. The car failed to match the McLaren Mercedes pace this year, but in China it had more than enough.
"I had a bit of oversteer during the race, but apart from that the car has been perfect and we put all the power on the engine to show our potential in qualifying yesterday."
The 24 year-old seemed to like the increased speed, saying how he wished he could have used it and won more than just the seven races during the year.
"This was the easiest race of the year probably. We showed here if we wanted to take a bit more of a risk to beat McLaren we can. I'm just a bit frustrated I only won seven races, because we saw the car has the pace to win more."
