248 F1
This morning the Scuderia Ferrari Team launched their new car for the 2006 Formula One Championship, the 248 F1. Everybody at Ferrari is hopeful for the new season and they hope that the team and car will perform better in 2006.
Ross Brawn ”Last year we weren't as fast as our competitors. I hope that this year things will go better."
There are a couple of new rules the teams have to take into account, not least of all the new V8 regulations.
"The V8 is a problem for everyone. Especially the vibration of the engine, but we're working on solving that problem."
Michael Schumacher was again behind the wheel of the Ferrari at the launch with new team mate, Felipe Massa watching on. The new Ferrari car was involved in testing last week but was only officially launched today. There are, of course, some great changes to the car from last years design which the team say they are very happy with thus far.
Aldo Costa "We are very happy with the way it is performing. It is lighter and the suspension has been completely changed. The aerodynamics have also been reworked and we will continue to make small changes if need be before the first race of the season."
Schumi got his first feel for the car on January 16th when he was involved in testing it at Fiorano. Massa then got his turn that same week on the Friday. The good early showing of the car has got many people at the team believing they can really challenge again this year. There has also been a rule change regarding tyres which many believe will be beneficial for the Italian team.
This season will see a return of tyre changes during the race. This is thought to be a boost for the Bridgestone supported teams as it is believes they cannot match the Michelin tyres when it comes to being long lasting.
