Second practice cancelled due to heavy rain
The second free practice session for the United States Grand Prix has been cancelled due to weather conditions. Heavy rain and the threat of lightning strikes made it impossible to use the track.
After a damp FP1, conditions worsened and second practice was initially delayed "indefinitely" until the weather improved. One hour later, that had not happened, and with rain intensifying further, the second session was cancelled altogether.
It was mainly the risk of lightning strikes that made it impossible for marshalls to work, hence making it unsafe and impossible to release cars on track, even though that it itself would have been extremely difficult with the amount of water on the race track.
The next session at the Circuit of the Americas near Austin has been scheduled to take place tomorrow at 10am local time. It remains to be seen how that will go, as the weather is expected to worsen even more.
