'It will be a steep learning curve' - Kubica
This weekend, Robert Kubica will celebrate his debut as the Friday test driver for the BMW Sauber F1 Team. During the first Grand Prix of the season in Bahrain, the 21-year old will be entering unchartered waters. However, Robert considers this a good opportunity to gather the experience.
"I'm looking forward to a very, very interesting weekend," said Robert Kubica about his first ever appearance during a Formula One race weekend. "It will certainly be a steep learning curve for me, but it also means attending a race for the first time since 1995 without actually taking part."
Despite the fact that he is still at the very beginning of his Formula One career, Robert has been able to gather a lot of valuable experience as a driver in various race series in the past. Therefore, the Pole already knonws many of the race tracks. "I know ten of the 18 Grand Prix circuits - all the European ones plus Sao Paulo," Robert reports. "That means I've got three new circuits lined up right from the start. So far I've always managed to learn the circuits easily. I only know the Bahrain track from television and computer games."
Nevertheless, Robert is approaching this taks full of optimism. He will attempt to support the BMW Sauber F1 Team as best as he can in his first season as test driver. "I'm really looking forward to my new task and will do everything I can to provide the team with valuable information. I'll be learning a lot, not just in terms of the car and driving, I will also experience how the team operates on a GP weekend."
