Pirelli announces tyre selection for Austria
F1 sole tyre manufacturer Pirelli announced the individual tyre selection for the forthcoming event in Austria. Ultrasoft, supersoft and soft are going to be used in Spielberg. The individual choices show some differences across the drivers.
Pirelli elected the three softest compounds of its range for Austria as the track in the beautiful scenery means low degradation for tyres.
There are a few differencies in terms of individual choices not just between teams, but also between team-mates.
Most drivers ordered only one or two sets of soft tyres, only the two Force India, the McLaren drivers and Felipe Nasr ordered three sets. Every driver selected three or four sets of supersoft bar Kevin Magnussen who ordered two and Bottas who ordered five sets. Most of the drivers elected for eight or seven sets of the ultrasoft However, the two Ferrari and Renault drivers ordered nine sets.
As the season has already shown the differences in the original order do not have a significant impact on the actual race weekend as everyone tends to have the same or very similar allocation for qualifying and race. Whoever has a different choice at the beginning of a weekend, tends to correct it with using more sets of the less preferred compound in the first and the third session.
