FP2: Verstappen stays ahead, Raikkonen second
Dutch Red Bull driver, Max Verstappen remained fastest in the second practice session on Friday at Montreal. The Dutchman had another trouble-free session and went round the island in 1:12.198 using the hypersoft tyres.
While Kimi Raikkonen ended up second fastest with a solid 42 laps completed, the second Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo was stood still in the garage for a large part of the session due to issues with its Renault power unit. The Australian emerged back out towards the end of the session to go third fastest, noting Red Bull's expected speed at this venue.
Lewis Hamilton was 4th fastest, nearly 6 tenths down on the pace setter, followed by Vettel and Bottas.
Romain Grosjean upped the pace for Haas in 7th after being 12th in FP1. The Frenchman did his best to stay out of trouble, but still came into contact with a groundhog near the end of the session, causing damage to his front wing. Not what the team wanted, given their shortage of spare parts.
Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez put both Force India cars in the top 10, just ahead of Fernando Alonso who completed the better half of the pack.
Alonso's team mate at McLaren, Stoffel Vandoorne enjoyed his session a bit less as he scrubbed the wall at Turn 9, causing some damage to the right rear suspension that forced him to end his session early. Lance Stroll greeted the Champions' Wall again, even after getting in touch with it in FP1 as well.
Carlos Sainz was maybe the most unfortunate driver of the afternoon, with the Spaniard crashing his Renault out of Turn 7, after being slightly eager on the throttle out of the corner.
