Alonso met STEM-students in Oviedo ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix
Ahead of this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, two-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso joined over 30 Spanish students for a day of STEM-inspired workshops and karting.
Aston Martin held a series of STEM workshops for Spanish students in Fernando Alonso’s hometown of Oviedo, as well as providing the opportunity for them to go karting at the two-time world champion's eponymous venue.
Marking the third event of its kind this year, following karting events previously held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and Shanghai, China, this latest installment of the initiative took place at the Museo y Circuito Fernando Alonso.
Over 30 Spanish students from across the country were in attendance, as the day provided them inspiration and insight from motorsport and STEM-focused activities, plus the opportunity to meet the Spanish driver, Pedro de la Rosa and Jessica Hawkins.
The students took part in an array of workshops across the STEM subjects, before getting to grips with their own go-kart, all within the surrounding environment of Alonso's museum, which boasts its very own karting circuit.
Commenting on the special day, Alonso said: "It's always special to speak with younger generations and see their passion for motor racing. Motorsport has grown in popularity over the years in Spain and we hope to see more Spanish talent making it into the highest level of racing.
"Aramco is extremely passionate about this topic and it’s great to see such a fantastic programme to help these students across many of the STEM disciplines. It was very special to host this event in my hometown and museum. Events like this one today help to engage those battling to make it through the ranks in their chosen disciplines, and raise the interest levels for racing, which leaves a lasting mark in the region and country."
"At Aramco, we believe in pushing the limits of possibility through sport, and we are using sports as a platform to drive innovation, create opportunity, improve lives and positively impact society," added Rania Biltagi, Marketing, Partnership & Sponsorship Manager at Aramco.
"Together with the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team, we seek to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers, sports fans and even racing drivers. Through these fantastic events, we hope that we continue to ignite the innovative, inclusive, and passionate potential within the youth, who will be the STEM leaders of tomorrow."
