Fred Vasseur promises more upgrades for Silverstone

Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur hopes that the upgrade package the Scuderia is planning to introduce at this weekend's British Grand Prix will deliver the necessary step to close in on the field-leading duo of Red Bull and McLaren.

Following a successful start to the season which saw Ferrari score two victories in Melbourne and Monaco, the Scuderia fell back in the pecking order despite recent upgrades.

The Italian team debuted a comprehensive set of upgrades at Barcelona, but the package has not delivered the results Ferrari had hoped for. While the Scuderia was hot on the heels of Red Bull at the start, the recent races suggested that it fell behind McLaren and Mercedes as well.

The team is expected to introduce a few new bits at this weekend's British Grand Prix from which the team expects to increase the downforce level of the SF-24.

Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur expects a lot from the upgrades, but he stressed that the main goal will be to extract the full potential of the latest development package.

"Along with the Italian Grand Prix, the British event has been on the calendar longer than any other. Silverstone features high speed corners, which highlight the car’s strengths and weaknesses and where the best drivers can make a difference.

"I believe that the updates package developed for the SF-24 by our engineers back in Maranello is a good one, delivering a step in aerodynamic downforce and now it is up to those of us at the track to extract all that potential to make the most of it.

"We revert to the standard format this weekend, which means we have three hours of free practice in which to find a set-up that allows us to exploit the benefits that the new parts should deliver.

Vasseur stressed that it will be crucial for Ferrari to find the optimal setup for its car after the Italian team seemingly struggled to extract the most of its upgraded SF-24.

"As I already said, knowing how best to set up the car can actually have a bigger effect on lap time than can the specific benefits of any new components.

"We need to do a better job, so that Charles and Carlos can qualify higher up the grid and then fight right at the front in the race," said the Frenchman.
