Rosberg's race at Nürburgring
This weekend, rookie Nico Rosberg was able to score points for the Williams F1 Team in front of his home crowd at Nürburgring. The young gun talks about his European Grand Prix and in the meantime hopes to score more points this weekend in Spain.
"What a weekend! The European Grand Prix was not the most straightforward of races, but in the end starting dead last and coming all the way back to take two points was fantastic.
Pace-wise, qualifying went pretty well. Mark and I came in ninth and twelfth and we knew we were running at race pace rather than qualifying pace. We were just one or two tenths short on the day but that will come from a bit of fine tuning that we didn’t quite get right on the day.
The way that Mark was able to pick up six places on the first lap even though he was carrying a lot of fuel showed just how quick we were though.
I said on Sunday morning that we had the race pace and if we got a bit of luck we could finish into the points. In the end that’s exactly what happened.
The Bridgestone tyres also performed well, which definitely helped us, and I think the race strategy was just perfect. We made a couple of changes to the car in the first pitstop, which gave me a real boost, and after that the car felt great and I could really attack for the second half of the race.
By the end I was battling with Renault and McLaren-Mercedes and even looked at going past [Giancarlo] Fisichella but decided not to jeopardise my position. At the line I was less than half a second behind him.
Now our attentions are turning to next week and the Spanish Grand Prix. Over the next few days I’ll just be relaxing before we get to Barcelona where I think we have a very good chance of picking up more points. This weekend showed again that we have the pace and Mark and I are working well together, really pushing each other, which is important.
Barcelona is not one of our favourite tracks but I think we can go there and carry on what we’ve been doing this season, progressing all the time getting points here, there and everywhere and keeping the momentum going."
