We'll see about the performance tomorrow - Alonso

The Spanish World Champion, Fernando Alonso, was feeling calm after day one of his work in Barcelona. It's Alonso's home race in front of 100.000 Spanish fans. Of course the Renault F1 driver wants to take the 10 points on Sunday.

Fernando, how did it go for you today in practice?

"It was a very happy day for me, to have the emotion of driving in front of the fans. Then we did our normal job: choosing the tyres, making sure everything works OK. We didn't have any problems, the balance was good and we understand the tyres. Tomorrow, we can see about the performance."

Ferrari seemed very competitive?

"Maybe, but we have to concentrate on our job. We will analyse the information, and see how quick our rivals are. They are very confident for their pace on long runs, but we are too. We don't have any big worries right now."

Who else will be competitive?

"It is hard to get the clear picture on Friday. McLaren-Mercedes and Honda were not quick, and we had a Red Bull in second place. I am sure that is not the picture we will see tomorrow in qualifying. We will just wait, prepare our job 100% and then see what happens."

Are you worried by the Ferrari resurgence in the last two races?

"Not more than before. In Imola, we showed our potential to be quicker even though we finished behind. At the Nürburgring, we showed our pace and did the maximum, but we were slower and there was nothing to do. But I am getting new motivation every day, to beat Michael and the other drivers. Now, I have a good lead: 13 points. So even if I only finish second, he needs seven races to catch me. And we want more than just second place."

So, you are still determined to get another title?

"Yes, I want a second championship. The R26 will be competitive at all the tracks, so if there are no mistakes from me or the team, we will be fighting at the end of the year for the title, which was our goal."
