Proud of the team - Nielsen

The Renault F1 Team Manager, Steve Nielsen, thanks his troops after a memorable race. The Renault F1 Team became World Champion again, after they did the same last season. Fernando Alonso completed the party as he took his second title.

Steve, how was your race?

"Intense! We prepared for the race like for any other, without taking anything for granted. That took a lot of effort, it was a difficult weekend and there were some surprises in the race. But everything worked perfectly. This evening, I am relieved and very proud of the team."

What does it mean to win the two world titles for a second consecutive time?

"Last year, some people said we were lucky to win the titles because McLaren had a faster car than Renault. This triumph puts that idea to bed once and for all, because we have beaten Ferrari at the top of their game."

The team had to endure some pressured moments this summer. Was it tough?

"Of course. At the start of the year, we had a comfortable gap and for many reasons, our rivals got back within touching distance of us. But we never doubted ourselves. We made some small mistakes like in Budapest, but we responded without losing focus. That’s the mark of a great team."

What was the difference between Renault and Ferrari in your opinion?

"I think that, like with McLaren in 2005, we managed to push our rivals to breaking point. That paid off, because they made several crucial mistakes."
