Pretty optimistic for the race - Kovalainen

As the most prestigious race of the season is coming up, Heikki Kovalainen, the ING Renault F1 Team’s rookie driver is really looking forward to his first Monaco Grand Prix. Kovalainen is optimistic but doesn't expect miracles.

Heikki, what are your ambitions for the weekend?

"The car’s improving and we’re still working on the main cause of our problems. It was a bit better at Paul Ricard but the best were still ahead of us. So we’re reasonably optimistic but there won’t be a huge leap forward."

Do you think the Monaco track will help you get closer to the front-runners?

"We think it’ll probably be better for Renault this weekend, but the teams in front of us will still be very quick. Having said that, anything can happen in Monaco. We might have our best weekend of the season. Who knows?"

A lot of drivers live here but not you. Are you not tempted?

"No, I’m not. I like living in England. It’s practical, it’s near the team and that’s very important when you begin in F1. It allows me to visit the factory often and talk with the engineers etc. I don’t think I’ll come and live in Monaco, as I’m not very keen on this kind of life style. If I had the choice I’d live in the north of Finland, but that wouldn’t fit in with my schedule very well!"
