Montreal is a highlight - Theissen

For Mario Theissen, the Canadian Grand Prix represents one of the true highlights on the Formula One calendar. Because of the positive results secured on fast tracks in the past, the BMW Motorsport Director hopes for another successful race.

"For me, Montreal and Melbourne represent two highlights," says Theissen regarding the Canadian Formula One race. "And the reasons also are similar. In both cases, the race is held close to a metropolis: a city that is emotionally involved when it comes to GP racing, where you can truly feel the Formula One fever. From our point of view, this is a particularly positive atmosphere and the main reason why we always love to come to Montreal."

However, the great atmosphere isn't the only reason the BMW Sauber F1 Team loves travelling to North America. In the past, the team has secure good results at fast tracks such as the 'Circuit Gilles Villeneuve'.

"Usually, we prove to be competitive on fast racetracks," says Mario Theissen. "Obviously, we hope that this will also be the case in 2007. Montreal is a so-called stop-and-go track: with long straights where the cars accelerate to high speeds, and - on the other hand - tight corners. All this is traditionally demanding on both the engine and the brakes. This has suited us rather well, in the past."
