Heidfeld looking forward to home race

Nick Heidfeld finished the British Grand Prix in sixth place and managed to collect three further world championship points in Silverstone. The BMW Sauber F1 Team driver looks back on the season so far and looks forward to the home race on the Nürburgring.

"The gap to the top teams is not greater than it was at the beginning of the season," Heidfeld says. "The gap was as big in the first race of the season as it was now in Silverstone. We only managed to close the gap later on in the year. Of course it would be great to battle for the top positions. Currently, however, all we are hoping for is to strengthen the third place. The track characteristics are part of the reason why we were so strong in North America - those tracks are a little faster. There are still a few tracks lined up that should be good for us."

The next race of the 2007 Formula One season, the German Grand Prix, takes place on the Nürburgring in two weeks time. Nick speaks about the preparations of the BMW Sauber F1 Team and expects a home Grand Prix with euphoric fans: "We have two weeks time before the race so we will see some changes in the cars - hopefully in ours too," Nick says. "There won't be any major changes but we will be in the wind tunnel 24 hours a day. If we find something to improve we will incorporate that. A home Grand Prix is always special. I have heard that even more spectators are going to come because there is only one race in Germany this year. In that case the atmosphere will be even better."
