Monza Information
The Monza circuit hosts F1 races since decades and its track is Ferrari's favourite battlefield since it is held in front of its Italian spectators. Monza speeds reach the highest of the whole F1 year and are broken up in parts by slow to medium speed corners and chicanes.
Apart from its awe-inspiring top speeds, the track at Monza is best known for its racing tradition. Nowhere else has staged more Formula One Grands Prix than the Royal Park. This years Grand Prix will be the 55th Formula One race to be held at Monza.
The Circuit was modified and corrected in 2000 with a simpler and slower chicane at the end of the pit straight.
Last year's race was won by Rubens Barrichello in his Ferrari ahead of his team mate Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button.
This year, lots of drivers want to stand on the highest scaffold after the race next sunday. Most of them however for very different reasons. World champion Michael Schumacher for instance wants to make up the bad year for Ferrari in front of the homecrowd. Jenson Button wants to do better than last year while Kimi Raikkonen aims to catch up with Fernando Alonso in the Championship race.
After the bad luck in Turkey, Mark Webber wants points. And so we have many candidates for the win next weekend. We'll see what happens on the quickest circuit of the F1 calendar.
Keep in mind that all teams have tested on the Monza track last week, so their may be some adjustments on the cars.
The test have also shown that we may expect a new record speed trap at the end of the start finish straight and possibly even a fastest Formula One lap ever.
