Theissen very satisfied with driver duo
Since its foundation, the BMW Sauber F1 Team has put its faith in the driving ability of Nick Heidfeld. Robert Kubica joined him as a regular driver in the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix, and has remained in the cockpit ever since. BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen is very satisfied with the two drivers, and describes their qualities.
At 30 years of age, and with 136 Grands Prix under his belt, Nick is one of the most experienced and consistent drivers in motor sport's elite class. He has once again performed excellently at the start of this Formula One season: after three races and one podium place in Melbourne, Nick is currently second in the Drivers' Championship on 16 points. "He has seamlessly followed on from last year's great performances", says Theissen. "Nick is hard to beat, recognises opportunities, and knows how to take advantage of them."
Although team-mate Robert currently lies behind Nick in the Drivers' Championship in third place (14 points), the 23-year-old has enjoyed the more spectacular moments this year: at the Bahrain Grand Prix, he grabbed the BMW Sauber F1 Team's first pole position. This year he has shown a marked improvement on last year's performances and has, according to Theissen, made major progress over the winter months. "Robert is back to his old self. He is throwing the car round the turns again. We can expect great things from him too", says the German.
