Let me clarify. McLaren chose a new rear wing for low downforce, and a single-deck beam wing for medium downforce. This is the option used in the second practice and is considered the best in the race. The race simulation confirms this. It is not a big deal that McLaren did not perform well in qualifying. This is a minimization of losses in order to be very fast in the race. The race promises dry weather, and the simulation shows that McLaren and Red Bull are the fastest in a dry race.
McLaren has three variants of the single-deck beam wing. The most loaded variant, with a large area and attack angle, the middle variant - a smaller area and a smaller attack angle, and the most unloaded variant - the minimum area and the smallest attack angle. In the second practice, in qualifying and the race, the second variant was chosen as the most balanced for Spa.

From what the team and Lando said, I think there is something, curious to see. As far as I can tell, I don't think the team changed the car's configuration. According to Lando on Friday, the car has speed, but he wasn't very comfortable behind the wheel. It's enough to tweak the settings a little bit to make him feel more comfortable.
