Why exactly? He went to great lengths explaining how medium tyres were utter s**t in these temps and conditions.

1:21.6 is a race fastest lap. You can bet your house 2015 cars won't get within 2-3s of that, as that would make them some 4s faster than last year. And if you're going with a single quali lap then 2009 and 2010 cars have got you covered as well, with 1:19.9.

Sure, but equally I don't believe that teams run quali fuel loads at any point in testing, let alone those laps from rosberg.

But yeah, agreed, I'm just interested in how quickly these cars seem to be progressing. Put another way, the eventual pole from 2012 was 1:22.2 (albeit Hamilton went half a second quicker). Even without much exhaust blowing that year, we're still talking about cars with larger capacity v8s, beam wings, bigger front and rear wings, so to surpass them already is pretty good.

I believe Hamilton and Rosberg weren't the only one complaining about the tyres in these temperatures. I recall Franz Tost complaining why we are testing in Europe when the temperatures are irrelevant to those during the season. He thinks Winter testing has to take place in Abu Dhabi.

If you want a meanlingfull discussion, please be respectful and stop tearing apart the stuff i wrote.

Here is the article i refer to:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/117764
"My first impression of the tyres is not spectacular, but maybe when we get to hotter conditions it will be better."
My point being, like Hamilton suggests, they are not getting the tyres to work properly because of the low temperatures. More to your point: he doesn't specifically state that he dislikes the mediums only, you may provide a source to that statement. So because the tyres are not in there normal environment, I personally do not think 2sec delta between SS and M is realistic.

Is the 1:26,437 by Hamilton the best time we saw on hard tyres during this test?

Autosport says hard tyres while AMuS says mediums for Hamilton during this lap...
Dear FIA, if you read this, please pm me for a redesign of the Technical Regulations to avoid finger nose shapes for 2016! :-)

After a stint, Hamilton's fastest time is a 1:24,4 which is the 4th fastest time in this years Barcelona testing so far. He did this on the hard tyre though.

This is a truly impressive lap time, taking into account the compound and the current temperatures in Barcelona. I was expecting Mercedes to show their true potential in this last test but it seems that the "hammer time" show has just begun.

With the Alonso thread closed, rumours this morning that Alonso will sit out Melbourne. Abad is unable to rule it out at the moment.

I think its too early to say it. I hope he will be able to drive.

Only 5 laps for Mclaren this morning, another not very productive day so far.
