12:10 BEN ANDERSON: "Spent some of the morning watching the cars trackside.

"The Mercedes looks a joy to drive, smothered in grip, and the Williams is also impressive - much more consistent and stable at the rear than last year's car.

"The Ferrari wasn't turning in well at low speed, and couldn't carry the same momentum through Turn 3 as the Mercedes, but Vettel was on long runs, so it's possible the car was simply fat with fuel.

"Didn't see much of the Red Bull, but the 'new' Toro Rosso looked decent in Verstappen's hands. He was fighting to control some wheelspin exiting the slower corners, but looked very neat otherwise.

"The Lotus and the Sauber both look tough to drive. Maldonado and Nasr were both fighting the wheel mid-corner and Maldonado particularly was struggling to be consistent through turns one, two and three.

Great to see Jenson hit 44 laps by the lunch break! Chandhok and Ben Anderson both commenting on how good McLaren's front end looks. That's been their achilles heel the past couple of seasons, maxing out their front wing and still getting understeer. Looks like a very solid base to develop a race winning car, maybe by the end of the season if the Honda PU is up to it.

(Yes, I'm an optimist!)

Good news.

Does anyone have the times... my suspicion is that the engine is still not running at full power.

Presumably they will keep it this way and get whatever they can done of their schedule before ramping the power up for the last few days.

Still no idea where Mclaren is at relative to it's competitors. But hopefully they give us a taste of it's actual performance at some point over the test.

That's what I think too. But it's nice to see it getting some laps done.

Yes, still reduced power I believe. With a Melbourne spec engine arriving for tomorrow, which fixes all the issues they've had (they say), I'm guessing we'll see some running at full power. Dare say a qually simulation or two!

Anyone has some info why Merc hasn't been out after lunch break?

13:56 A variety of tyre compounds and programmes as well. Vettel is on the hards, Bottas mediums, for instance. Bottas has set two green sectors this lap.

13:51 Vettel looks to be on a long run in the Ferrari, we're tracking it as a possible race simulation as he approaches 100 laps for the day.

New or old mediums, that's the question. Nevertheless, they are driving! Laptimes are not that bad. Hope the new engine will give them a bit more power and stay in one piece.
