Luckily for Lewis Nico didn't finish thus a 28 point gap will still remain, worst case scenario of course.

You realise his 3rd engine is still good, right? It was an external water leak, not an engine failure.

That almost sounds like a stunt FIA would pull...

Paper win, paper second place, paper championship and they celebrate as if they beat someone. I bet Lauda will explain that it was understeering balance that caused a fire and burning old engines are quicker. Pathetic team.

- Are we likely to be racing anyone at the end - Ricciardo asks
- No, but push 100% because that's how people on the internet think classic F1 looked like
- Only joking turn everything down and cruise for 30 laps stupid, it's a one stop race with no competition
Not quite ;-) , because they said yes and he gained one place but you get the point. The first one is real.
Yes you are totally spot on. Toto pushed the super secret "explode engine" button on Nico's car. Because a blown up merc engine sure serves them as a great marketing gadget. And Nico kind of having the downside in the team is a big conspiracy because he is obviously faster then Ham and a fair play driver also...

Any idea what that penalty would be? 25 seconds?
from formula1.com

If the penalty is issued in the last three laps of the race, the driver is permitted to complete the race and take a time penalty. Five seconds will be added in lieu of a five-second penalty; 10 seconds for the optional ten-second penalty; 20 seconds for a drive-through; and 30 seconds for the mandatory ten-second penalty.
This issue was timed at 15:04 so it was before last three laps so I guess it will go to the stewards.

It's Italy so the stewards might like a win for Ferrari so they would DQ Hamilton and then the local fans are happy.
Rules is rules! Especially in F1. Like I said there are slippery and stinky fish out there. I saw a little one and a large one in the pre-race coverage walking together.

But if Pirelli are there to set the tire pressure when they leave the blankets, and then they drop, surely they can't do anything? The directive was to set the pressures at that as they leave the blankets, I don't remember them saying it would be during the race...

Please correct me if I'm wrong though.

Nico's infringement is worse. He would have been punished too.

Right, but a DSQ won't affect Nico's score line.

Yes, but what is the in-race penalty for a tyre pressure issue? Odds are that Hamilton will be DSQ which will be a travesty and another nail in the coffin of F1.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Only the Mercedes low on pressures.
So they only measured the Mercs and Ferraris? Seems like a fair deal...

He will be, 2 laps behind is still counts as qualified.

No points loss in his case however.

Yeah bit unfair, what about Williams? Or all the other teams for that matter? You can't measure one thing like that and not measure it for all teams.

The point is that Nico not finishing does not matter. As in if Lewis gets DSQed, so would have Nico if he did finish.

This is the normal operating way of F1. They can't check every parameter of every car, so they check a random selection each race of features, and they check a random selection of cars.
