They don't need to, then run hard enough that they can have heat strokes. if you've ever seen or been an elite level runner, you would know they can get even more dehydrated than the drivers can.
Unlike an F1 driver, they can drink all the liquids they want and they can pour water over themselves all day long. Not disputing the long distance running thing, but humans are evolved for long distance running, we've got lots of mechanism to help our bodies cope with it. Tell me a long distance runner that has forgone drinking water for the lenght of time it took to run a marathon in order to save weight.
