Qualifying to take place on Sunday
Due to impossible weather situations at Suzuka since the beginning of FP3, qualifying has been postponed until race day. Q1 is planned to be started 4 hours ahead of the start of the Grand Prix of Japan.
Half an hour before the announcement, Mercedes GP principal Ross Brawn already commented that there was no chance that Saturday would still see a qualifying session.
"At the moment itd would not be responsible to release the cars on the track, as it simply is too dangerous with rivers of water passing on-track. Currently predictions are not good, and more rain is about to come in the next hours. There really is no option, as we would have to run before 5pm, otherwise it would be too dark".
As it turned out, his expectations became true, and qualifying will be held the same day as the race. It is expected the track will again be wet, but much lighter rain is expected.
