Spa cancellation no big deal for Nick
Many Formula One drivers regard the cancellation of the 2006 Belgian GP at Spa-Francorchamps as a bitter loss. BMW Sauber F1 Team driver Nick Heidfeld, however, is of the opinion that the cancellation isn't that sad. The German also feels comfortable on other tracks.
"Obviously it's a pity that the Belgian Grand Prix is no longer a part of the season," says the 28-year-old. "Spa is an extraordinary circuit and a favourite track for many drivers. But I don't feel this way, hence, the loss doesn't hurt me that much." In recent years, no other venue on the calendar made the hearts of Formula One enthusiastics beat faster than the 'Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps', where the sight cars charging through spectacular sections such as 'Eau Rouge' or 'Blanchimont' at more than 300km/h regularly takes the crowds' breath away.
Previously, Nick also used to look forward to racing in the Ardennes rollercoaster, however, there are other circuits on the calendar he also appreciates. "Suzuka is my favourite circuit," reveals the BMW Sauber F1 Team driver. "The venue of the Japanese Grand Prix is long and truly challenging. I just love Suzuka's 'Esses'.
If you don't find the perfect line in the first bend, you lose a lot of time in the second. At the same time, Melbourne is another circuit I'm really fond of. In the past, it used to be the venue of the season opener, therefore, it was always a special pleasure to travel to Australia."
