McLaren updates its 2020 livery
Just days ahead of the season-opening Austrian Grand Prix, McLaren Racing has unveiled tweaks to its original 2020 livery for the first round of the coronavirus-delayed F1 season.
Formula One has recently revealed its latest initiative, titled WeRaceAsOne, that embraces the message of unity and inclusion and fights against racism.
Joining the campaign, Mercedes has made the decision to change its livery from silver to black for the entire 2020 F1 season to show its commitment to the Black Lives Matter movement that had shone a searching light on how much the world needs to find new measures and actions in the fight against racism and all forms of discrimination.
McLaren Racing has become the latest team to announce changes to its 2020 livery which aims at carrying the message of fighting against discrimination. F1 stated that the rainbow pattern will be the universal symbol of unity, solidarity, hope and the sport will use it in different ways.
The updated livery of McLaren 2020 car, the MCL35 will feature the rainbow on the halo and on the lower part of the engine cover.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown said: „We fully support Formula 1 on the #WeRaceAsOne campaign as we return to racing,”
“Formula 1 and McLaren have a truly worldwide audience, and we recognise that our return to the track is a huge opportunity for our sport to make an impact at a global level, helping those most affected by the Covid-19 crisis and standing together against the blight of racism, as we work steadfastly to build an even stronger culture of diversity, inclusion and equality in our team and our sport,” he added.
