Revised Variante Alta chicane
Both Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher have both given their fiat to the revised 'Variante Alta' chicane. The formerly quick right-left with very high kerbs, the bend is now tighter and slower.
Michael Schumacher denies rumours that the change took the other teams by surprise and that the change is made for himself after he went off in the chicane during qualifying last year. According to Michael Schumacher the removal of the two high kerbs "was known to everyone who wanted to listen."
Fernando Alonso “I think it was a bit dangerous before, because you could really fly if you hit the kerb. Now, it is similar to the last chicane, which will be nicer to drive.”
Alonso crashed at the corner in 2001 with his Minardi.
