Perfect pit stops for BMW at Bahrain

By on

During the Bahrain Grand Prix, not only Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica showed first-class performances, but also the pit crew of the BMW Sauber F1 Team: Within half a minute, it managed to service both drivers at the "Bahrain International Circuit".

The scene was spectacular: On lap 23 of the Bahrain GP, Nick approached the BMW Sauber F1 Team pit for the first time. Due to a problem with the team radio and, therefore, the internal communication, this pit stop had not been scheduled. Approximately 15 seconds later, Robert entered the pit lane as well, in his case as planned. The crew was forced to react with lightning speed in order to be able to send the Polish driver back on to the track without any loss of time.

The mechanics worked perfectly: Altogether, Nick required 29.990 seconds from entrance to exit of the pit lane, Robert was ready for his second stint in 29.525 seconds. This made the BMW Sauber F1 Team one of the fastest teams in terms of changing tyres and refuelling in Bahrain. "I would like to thank the pit crew, which mastered a very difficult task - and of course both drivers," Willy Rampf, Technical Director of the BMW Sauber F1 Team, commented on the successful team manoeuvres.
