World Series - Formula Renault 3.5

By on

The second season of the World Series by Renault are kicking off at 29 April at the Circuit of Zolder in Belgium. The series is a mix of top class motorsport and fun activities aimed at all the family. One of the Championships presented at the World Series by Renault is the Formula Renault 3.5.

The Championship is open to fifteen teams with two cars each selected by the Organizing committee. The drivers must hold a Grade A or B FIA licence.

Qualifying

There is a 30-minute qualifying session for each race. Each driver is limited to a maximum of 7 laps per session. Any driver whose best time is greater than 107% of the pole position time shall fail to qualify.

Race

Each meeting, except for Monaco, consists of two races. The first race will be over a distance of between 75 and 130km (maximum of 35 minutes).

The second race will be over a distance of between 90 and 170km (maximum of 45 minutes) and will include a mandatory pit stop within a ‘window’ (-> Pit stop between laps 5/17 at Zolder). During this pit stop, a maximum of six mechanics must change two of the wheels. Pit stops are prohibited while the safety car is out on track. The ‘window’ will then be extended by the number of laps for which the safety car was on track. Any driver who makes a pit stop outside of this window will receive a 20-second penalty. Any driver who makes a pit stop before the end of the first lap or who fails to stop will receive a one minute penalty.

Points and titles

The World Series Formula Renault 3.5 includes two separate championships: one for drivers and one for teams. Points scored by both drivers count towards the team standings.

For the two day collective test sessions, each driver will be allocated three sets of new slick tyres. For the one day collective test sessions, each driver will have one set of new tyres. For two race meetings, each driver will have two sets of new tyres.

The use of tyre warmers is allowed during collective testing and timed test sessions, as well as for the two tyres changed during the pit stop.

Weight

The minimum weight of the race car is 600kg. The minimum racing weight (driver and equipment on board) is 680kg.
